On the downhill side

Well, spring break is over now, which means we’ve made it over the halfway point of the semester! It’s exciting and scary at the same time. Exciting when I think that I’m that much closer to summer, and to studying abroad. Scary when I realize that I’ll be halfway through college in seven weeks, or when I think of the ridiculous amounts of work I need to do in those seven weeks. Opening my planner is a scary experience these days, because just about every single day is completely packed full of classes, work, meetings, and homework.

My cross-cultural training class (pre-study abroad class) met for the first time the week before spring break, and I can already tell it’s going to be an intense class. It’s a 2-unit course, but we only meet for the second half of the semester, and only once a week. That means each of our class meeting is 3 hours long, and for that half of a semester, the class has the amount of work equivalent to a 4-unit class. So, for the next 7 weeks I’ll essentially be taking 21 units worth of classes despite the 18-unit maximum. To add more to that, I’ll be adding more writing mentor office hours as the students I mentor get closer to handing in their paper.

Luckily, at the end of all of that craziness, I have summer vacation and study abroad to look forward to. Spring break was just a tease of summer vacation, and has made me even more motivated to make it through the next 7 weeks!
